About the 2007 Festival Host: Stu Needel

Stu Needel arrived in this world already a drummer thanks to the nine month rhythm bath given to him by his musical mother who joyfully used her growing belly as a percussion instrument. What began as a musical career performing with his family's ensemble at both private and public functions has evolved into a worldwide music performance and facilitation 'ministry' that has spanned nearly five decades. He has studied extensively since the age of 6 with some of the world's greatest drummers and teachers including Babatunde Olatunji, Mamady Keita, Raquy Danziger, and Arthur Hull, the godfather of facilitated drum circles. Playing a wide diversity of music and on many types of drums from many cultures including kit, hand drums, and percussion, Stu is also passionate about others playing and experiencing the true joys of rhythm and drumming. He leads regular community drum circles, workshops and other events in organizational and corporate settings and has performed and facilitated rhythm events throughout the US and many other countries. Stu has authored several books, is a speaker, trainer, actor, and producer and is a Professional Member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild, Percussive Arts Society, and National Speakers Association.
