BIRDS Mission Statement

The BIRDS Mission Statement:

The purpose of The Baltimore International Rhythm and Drumming Society,
Inc. (BIRDS) is exclusively charitable, educational and nonprofit as
defined under section 501 C-3 of the internal revenue code 1986
and dedicated to the following goals:

To provide venues for the presentation of percussion-based musical traditions to the general public, which includes the organization of a major drumming and rhythm festival each fall in Baltimore;

To offer workshops and educational programs on drumming and percussion to people of all backgrounds and ages;

To create opportunities for members of diverse communities to come together and collaborate musically;

To promote an ideal of peace through music;

To develop and share information on drumming traditions and their cultural significance through the creation of an extensive database and a web site;

To outreach in the greater Baltimore and Washington areas by bringing drumming and percussion to underserved populations, especially in schools and convalescent homes.
